Florida Treasure Hunt

Category: planet financeGeekGirl @ 6:16 am

I think this is kind of funny. The other day, I got a letter stating that I had unclaimed funds that were available to me. It shows my old address (from around 10 years ago. Seriously.) and my insurance company. Turns out there is $250 that they owe me. I just need to fill out the information and return it.

Since I’m always weary of…well everything, I decided to do some research to make sure that it’s legit. Turns out that it is. The Florida CFO, Alex Sink, decided to start returning money, jewelry, and other items to their owners. I’ve just got to send off my claim form along with my proof of who I am and I should have money in about 90 days or so. (It’s going either to savings or student loans. Sad.)

Well, yesterday I got another letter from an attorney’s office claiming the same thing. That I have $250 to claim. The only difference? The attorney’s office gets a fee of $45 for “helping” you claim it.

Which one do you think I’ll be filing? $45? Are they insane?

For those in Florida, you can check to see if there is any money owed to you here:  www.fltreasurehunt.org.
