I’m sure by now you’ve heard of the ridiculous law that Arizona has put in place. It basically calls for people to be pulled over for driving while brown. It’s bullshit and we need to let them know. Here’s a list of Arizona based companies that you need to avoid. Seriously…Fuck Arizona. I lived there during their MLK Birthday debacle. The place is as heinous as you might imagine. (I also hate them for producing John McCain whom later introduced us to that bitchfaced Sarah Palin. Assholes.)

Just in case you’re on another planet and didn’t know it, Barack Obama kicked all kinds of ass last week. He had an interesting SOTU that made me think he’s at least getting some balls again. But, the highlight of last week? Him completely spanking the Republicans during a Q&A on Friday. It got so bad that the completely “fair and balanced” Fox News cut away from the coverage.

This is why we elected Obama. He is, indeed, the smartest man in the room. Period. He has a great grasp on the issues and is able to make great decisions. I’m hoping they broadcast more of these Q&A’s. The public needs to see how inept the Republicants are. It needs to be shown.

Obama’s spanking made me think of this:

Yeah…Obama schooling a bunch of Republicants took me back to nasty, dirty, Miami booty bass! Just go with it, yo!

Great Link on Haiti

I’ve managed to bite my tongue here on the entire Haiti situation. I don’t want to stick my foot in it, and now really isn’t the time to get all preachy. HOWEVER,  I stumbled across this link on www.theangryblackwoman.com. The links to some of the basic history on Haiti and information explaining why Haiti is a third world country are great. I also think poining out the different aid coming from other countries is on point. Our media makes it sound like ONLY America is helping them.

I’m also glad that they call the media out on referring to people trying to survive as “looters”. Looters go after tvs and stuff like that during riots. The Haitians are trying to eat and find water. Further, if I have to hear one more reporter worry about violence I am going to scream.  And the showing of dead bodies everywhere? Ugh…All of this reeks of  ”look at the poor black people – we must save them.” Bleh. I’m going to end this now because I do not want to get all stabby/Fear of a Black Planet on y’all. Read the post if you want to be informed and understand some of what is going on.

First and foremost, I LOVE Jay Smooth. Love everything about him. The man is the perfect combination for me. Smart, open minded, loves hip hop. Le sigh…

Anyway, check this video made with a few of his blogger friends:

I love this video and it makes a great point. Many of us are paying for things that we don’t want to support, but we’re not crying about it.

Maybe I’ll make my own video. Maybe Jay Smooth will call me, too. Hmmm….

Despite a troubled past and an alleged family curse, Ted Kennedy had a long run in the senate and accomplished a great deal in his lifetime. He now gets to see Bobby and John.

What I particularly liked about him is that he was unapologetically liberal. Not quasi liberal. Not a “Democrat”. He was a liberal. Period. He didn’t care if he offended Republicans or made them uncomfortable.

He now gets to see his brothers Bobby and John.

R.I.P. Mr. Kennedy, and thank you.

I Love You, Jon Stewart

Thursday night, Jon Stewart had Betsy McCaughey on the Daily Show. McCaughey is the “person” responsible for all of this death panel bullshit you keep hearing about in those townhall meetings. Somehow, this woman has convinced some of our dimmer Americans that we are going to start euthanizing the olds. (Is that really a bad idea??? Think of the money that would be saved.)

In the interview, Stewart asks her several times to show him where the bill says anything about euthanasia and other items that she swears are written in the text. Instead, she changes the subject and continues flipping through the HUGE bill. (Why would you go on a show and not have your materials marked and ready to go? Did she think he wasn’t going to ask to see these things?) She resorts to talking to the crowd and trying to sweet talk Stewart (a Palin tactic if I’ve ever seen one) rather then showing where she is getting her information. Basically, we’re seeing her very loose interpretation of the bill.

Well,  Friday she “resigned” from her job on the Board of Directors for Cantel Medical Corporation. I put the word “resigned” in quotes because I’m thinking that she was fired or asked to step down. Her appearance on The Daily Show was an embarrasment and any company would be smart to distance themselves from her. Good job, Stewart.

Also, since I’m all up in the political Kool-Aid this morning, I want to give a big up to Barney Frank for shutting that little wingnut down in his townhall meeting. More Dems need to man up and tell these people that they are crazy. For your viewing pleasure, here’s Jon Stewart’s take on that:

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day here in South Florida. A bit windy, but who cares. I ran in shorts and short sleeve t-shirt today. Bunch of stuff floating around in my head, so let’s get to it. In bullets of course. That way I don’t have to worry about the flow of things. Here we go:

  • First and foremost, I ran for 40 minutes this morning. You read that right. 40 freaking minutes. It gave me a total of 3.5 miles. I knew that I wanted either 3.5 miles/40 minutes as my “long run” today. It was tough going out due to the wind. I still cannot breath when running into the wind. This has something to do with me getting in less air. Hope it gets better. I almost gave up. Then when I turned around and the wind was at my back, I felt great!
  • Todays run gave me a total of 4 runs this week! Yeah. I can’t believe it either.
  • My body is actually feeling semi-normal for the first time in months. I’m a bit tired, but that’s about it. It seems that if I’m not super careful about getting all of my sleep, I’m screwed. But otherwise, I feel good.
  • I wish I had a shirt that said, “Good job. You’ve just passed the girl with blood clots on her lungs!” So many people pass me like it’s a big deal. Yes. I’m sensitive.
  • I got my Arbitration Exercise done early this morning. I just need to edit that thing down tonight.  I only need  2 pages, but I have 3. Not a bad problem to have. I would like to get that out.
  • I’ve been reading Naked Lunch like a little maniac. I gotta tell you, I think Burroughs is an asshole. I’m probably the only English Lit lover that thinks that, but I’m ok with it. So far, the book just comes across as a junkie rambling. I’ve dealt with a lot of junkies in my early life. They’re assholes.
  • My Film Prof (the one that I hate) has posted our 10 question take home final. It looks like a foreign language to me. I will prevail, though.
  • My final assignment for my personal writing class is to hand in 5 “diary” entries from throughout the semester. Easiest. Assignment. Ever.
  • I did some calculating on my GPA. Even if I make all C’s this semester, I will still have a 3.2. Not as high as I want, but still workable.
  • I’m already coming up with things to do during winter break. I can’t wait for this semester to end.
  • I get the final word on the condo this week. I’m really just ready for it to be over. If I don’t get it, I’ll just get in an apartment. Whatever. That’s where I’m at on that.
  • I have every intention of moving at the end of December. Unless something ridiculous happens, I’m outta here. I can’t pay what I’m paying to have a roommate. Period.
  • I’m sick of having all of my money tied up with the condo/saving for the condo. I’m ready to get this shit over with so I can actually spend something. Damn. So many things that I both need and want.
  • I’m excited that Obama gives us a weekly update and has a cool website. (Well, at least that’s where I catch it.) I like that he has a plan. Yay! I’m sure that other asshole did the same thing, but I didn’t care to see him. He always reminds me of  Satan. More in the South Park/Saddam Hussein type of way. :-)
  • I would love to spend sometime with R. this weekend, but I think he’ll be busy. Sleeping. Or whatever it is he does all day.
  • Finally, I’m sick of seeing that skank Ashley Dupree on my tv. The hooker that slept with Spitzer. Talk about delusional!

With that, I’m off to put in time at the running store/do a shitload of homework.

Woot!

We Did It!!

Election Eve

I voted on Saturday. I waited 3 long hours from about 9:30 to 12:30. My back was tired, my legs exhausted, and near fainting from the hunger. Whatever. It had to be done. The back pain, knee pain, and hamstring pain that I am still feeling is a small price to pay to make history.

Regardless of who wins on Tuesday, history will be made. We will either have our first African American President, or our first female Vice President. As much as I hate the Republican nominees, either win will be HUGE for 2 marginalized groups of people. Females and African Americans.

As I walk my dog through the neighborhood, I run into my neighbors. There is a buzz in the air. An excitement brewing. Everyone is asking if you voted. Asking if you need a ride, where you need to go etc. Something big is about to happen.

So, now you have a choice. Either we keep things status quo, or we decide that things haven’t been going so great and decide to make a change. A change for the better. A chance to see what others have to offer. To hear a few voices that haven’t always been heard in Washington. A voice that I feel, for the first time, that I actually might have something in common with. Not because he’s a black man, but because he is a Democrat. A Liberal. Or as I prefer to call myself, a Progressive. He worked hard to get where he is in life, didn’t have everything handed to him, and actually cares about the little people. Guess what? We’re all the little people.

If you think things are fine the way they are, and don’t mind having an out of touch old man, and a woman that would love to see your reproductive rights taken away and for some bizarre reason thinks that people criticizing her violates her first amendment rights, then continue to vote Republican.

However, I learned many, many years ago that only a fool keeps doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. Tuesday night, we’ll get to see if Americans really are the fools that the rest of the world thinks that we are.

* Consider this the official GeekGirl endorsement. I know the world was waiting to see who I endorse. (Like there was ever a question.)

Mr. McCain, I’m Calling BULLSHIT!!!

Dear John McCain,

I am officially calling you out on your BULLSHIT. That’s right. B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T! Run that by your advisors.

Up until you chose Palin as your running mate, I found you inoffensive. You were just some little old man with a dream of being president. Sure I wasn’t going to vote for you, but I didn’t hate you. That’s a good thing.

Once you pulled this Sarah Palin bullshit, I officially started hating you. I won’t go into why she’s bad. I’m sure you know by now. Everyone has told you why this woman sucks. You don’t need me to reiterate the reasons for you. I’m sure you understand now.

Now, after having the nerve to put Miss Alaska 19?? on the ballot as VP, you’re now announcing that you will not be participating in the presidential debate on Friday. Oh, really? Why is that Mr. McCain? Ohhhh…You say that you have to go handle the bailout. Really? I thought that you said the American economy was fine. Hmmm…Did you lie, or were you uninformed? Or…are you just so senile that you forgot?

Furthermore, what are YOU going to do in regards to the bailout? Are we to believe that you can singlehandedly turn around the American economy? I hope that you don’t think we’re that damn stupid.

Mr. McCain, flatout, I’m calling bullshit. You cannot “suspend” your campaign to go take care of a crisis that you denied a couple of weeks ago. However, if the issue is that important, why don’t you put your running mate in charge of the campaign while you take care of business? What’s that you say? Because she can’t stand on her own 2 feet? Because she “can see Russia from her house” and doesn’t quite “know what the VP does”?

Here’s my theory – Since the economy is on everyone’s mind right now you’re afraid that you’re going to be grilled on it. You don’t know enough about it, so you are hiding. Throw in the fact that Obama is up in the polls…you get the idea.

All right McCain. I’ve said what I had to say. You can now continue doing whatever it is that you do. I’m sure you won’t be reading this since you don’t use a computer. (Injuries my ass!)
